Hopi House - Grand Canyon National Park, AZ
This is my first Photograph from my recent trip from the west coast to Home in FLA.
On this my latest Photoventure. I traveled to Red Rocks and the Hoover Dam in Las
Vegas. Then to the Grand Canyon in AZ for a morning shoot, then to San Antonio, TX
and The Alamo. I have been focusing especially hard on HDR Photography. Over the next
two weeks I hope to show how these incredible places look in winter, during and after
one of the worst storms of the season.
This Photograph of the Hopi House was taken just after Sunrise. There was lots of Icicles
hanging everywhere. Temperature at sunrise was -11 F degrees. Maybe 10 inches of snow
had fallen only hours before. I just sat there admiring the architecture.
This gorgeous building is the work of famous architect Mary Coulter. Also known as the
architect of the Grand Canyon. She was fascinated by South-Western Native American
cultures. This building showcases the utility and beauty of Native American design. She
Designed it to resemble a true native dwelling from the Hopi Village of Old Oraibi. It was
constructed using Hopi Architectural methods utilizing native stone and wood and was
built by Hopi workmen.
I was only only there a short time but the place glowed...
